It's Olympic year 2012 and what effect will that have on many of us? For K & D Joinery in 2006 it had plenty of effect, as we had to move our whole operation from under what is now the main Olympic stadium!
Our new factory is a single storey, 30,000sqft factory in Dagenham, East London, which is so much more efficient than the previous factory in Stratford. More importantly, we have room to expand on the site.
This factory relocation gave K & D Joinery the opportunity to create a new factory complex, and to invest in the latest technology. This has continued with a second CNC 5 axis Biesse router, and a Weinig 6 head moulder. All this investment giving greater flexibility, and at the same time offering more accurate and better quality to the finished product.
The ability to transfer information direct from the customer via our technical department to these machines reduces errors and improves the lead times. Our machinists and technical staff have embraced this technology, whilst combining it with traditional methods to provide a most thorough and diverse service to our customers.
When we set up the factory in 2006 we took advantage of a Carbon trust grant and installed a wood fired boiler. As a consequence we have minimised our impact on the environment, and more recently have set up a material recycling system to reduce landfill.
