Actively managing the environmental impact is a part of the K & D Joinery "Green Agenda", which is supported by the directors and employees of this family Company.
K & D have just gained full Chain of Custody accreditation for FSC and PEFC product supply, and can offer a comprehensive range of options to suit our customers requirements.
For the first part of this agenda K & D have incorporated a wood fired boiler to heat the factory and through this are not only reducing the waste to landfill, but are also using this heat to improve quality of the factory finished joinery.
We are so fortunate that building has commenced on the London Sustainable Industries Park adjacent to our factory, with 25 hectares of land dedicated to this. It will become the largest concentration of environmental industries in the UK. This will incorporate the Thames Gateway Institute for Sustainability offering research and information to all industries, but in particular those aligned to the building industry.
K & D products have been developed and are being tested to standards which which will satisfy the Code for Sustainable Homes and the Energy Efficient Standard 2007.
Further to this, we have been working with Stephen Donald Associates Ltd in the design and build of an Ambient Passive factory using our passive energy architecture, on our existing site. This will include our own range of Passive energy products and will include low carbon heat networks, to create energy equilibrium.
Within this building we will be manufacturing our extensive range of Passive windows and intend to offer training and knowledge base to compliment the Thames Gateway Institute.
